It was the perfect weather for Cloud's men's soccer team, but unfortunately the nice weather and wild crowd couldn't help out the Thunderbirds as they were defeated 6-2.

The Thunderbirds put on a tough battle as Darryl Odom scored the last point in the game with only seconds remaining.

Odom was not pleased with the game but knows the team has a lot of potential to be great.

"We need to play more as a team. One thing we need to work on is passing the ball and making better passes. We also need to not get so frustrated at each other," Odom said.

Odom has been a very vital part of the the Thunderbird soccer team over the last year. He was named a first team all-region player by the National Soccer Coaches Association last year. He was also up for the All-American award from the NSCAA.

Odom led the Thunderbirds in goals, assists, and points last season and was ranked 24th, 37th, and 21st in each area respectively.

"We came together more as a team in the second half and showed a lot of strength as a team. I hope we do good and keep working hard because finishing on top is what we are working for," Odom said.

Head Coach Dane Straight was also pleased with the men's effort in the second half of the game Wednesday.

"I'm a little frustrated, but we are getting better and showing improvement. Our plays are getting quicker as far as that's concerned, we just can't seem to put anything in," Straight said.

The T-Birds were also home last weekend and defeated the Hesston College Larks, winning 2-0. Odom and Juan Gonzales scored the two points.

Coach Straight is frustrated, but feels that the T-Birds can pull of a winning season.

"It's that last pass, that last shot right before the goal that we are needing to get and we are just not finishing it yet. The team is progressing and I'm happy with how we played today, for the most part, but we still got improvements to make," Coach Straight said.

The T-Birds, 3-3, will resume play tomorrow at Neosho County.
