REVIEW
You may or may not have heard that the Café Gaston has re-opened. It has and has since been renamed. It is now titled The Zistro and is under new ownership, that of Doug Zimmerman who also owns Judes in Jamestown.
I came in and dined on a Friday at high noon, and had fully resigned myself to not getting to eat and storming out in a rage. And in doing so making this review a total and complete firestorm. But nothing could be further from the truth. My assistants and myself were seated quickly and most politely.
The menu reads like that of your average dimly lit, bar and grill. But that is where the similarities end, (no Whitesnake or ill-conceived pick-up lines). I ordered an American classic, the single cheeseburger and a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos.
In an average amount of time, here it comes with a new friend, a chicken salad (with heavy ranch dressing). But I don't hold a grudge; I often get Cool Ranch Doritos confused with a number of different things, most recently a 1974 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. This mistake was quickly rectified then the experience continued.
The atmosphere at The Zistro was that of your average downtown café, people sitting, dining and carrying on conversation. The staff was nothing but courteous and very willing to improve your dining experience. Your waitress will quickly rattle off the day's special, which I feel confident in saying it will be worth your time and money.
Speaking of the check, you can pay for your meal with basically the contents of your pocket. To call the price reasonable would be to insult it. The price was more than fair. I left The Zistro feeling very satisfied, and knowing that I will be returning soon.
I highly recommend The Zistro if you are looking for a change of pace from fast food or El Puerto, this is the place for you.
